Daniel was a vibrant young man full of promise. He loved playing football and reading. His career of choice was safari guide. However, during the course of his secondary school education, Daniel would fall sick on and off and each time his test results would reveal a different diagnosis. This greatly affected his class attendance and academic performance. In early 2019 he
fell sick again and was found to have advanced pulmonary tuberculosis. He succumbed to the disease and passed away on the 30th of March at Longisa Referral hospital in Narok. His death robbed his community and the Land & Life family a promising, hardworking, determined boy who had a very bright future ahead of him.

In his honour, in June 2019 we started the Daniel Mukenye Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence for tertiary education in his memory. The aim of the scholarship is to nurture and support emerging young conservationists so that they can one day become conservation ambassadors within their communities. Recipients of this award are selected based on their potential to become conservation leaders, influencing local or national conservation issues in their home and country. In addition to this, Land & Life has also committed to educating Daniel’s younger siblings throughout their Primary School education.

Daniel will forever be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
