Ura Gate Primary school – near Elsa’s Kopje, Meru National Park

Ura Gate Primary School caters for over 400 children in the rural agricultural community adjacent to Meru National Park. In the past 4 years, the passion and dedication of the Camp Manager and generous donations from visitors at Elsa’s have enabled us to build and recondition 7 classrooms, a new kitchen, a dining hall, two senior staff offices, a bookstore, a staff room together with installing water in the staff and dining blocks. We have purchased over 200 solar lantern lamps, provided sanitary pads, stationery items, balls and art and craft materials, scissors, visual aids, colored chalks, jerseys and dolls.

The school is located in an area that gets very dry during some months of the year, leading to scarcity of food in the region.
